Guardian Cats of New York City Book cover

Commissioned for a self-published fantasy fiction book.
The central idea of this story collection is that there is an Old Pact between humans and cats, where we take care of them and they protect us from the threats we might not notice until it's too late. Humans are good at handling the big stuff. We go after vampires with fire and stake just fine, but who fights the rats the vampire is controlling?

The greatest example of cats protecting humans is Bast herself helping to protect Ra's sun-boat from Apophis as it sails through the underworld. So what's playing out in this scene is a re-enactment of that ancient battle: a hatchling of Apophis against a distant descendant of Bast.
